She also was recognized as an Honorable Mention for the 2009 USA Today All Academic Team competition for her work with All Access Internships.

Katie's willingness to create her own opportunities has landed her several unique work experiences in the past few years. In 2007, Katie interned with the sports dietitian for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, an inspirational figure who ignited her passion for entrepreneurship and the pursuit of nontraditional careers within the dietetics community. As a result, Katie is now an active member of the Nutrition Entrepreneurs and Dietitians in Business and Communications Dietetic Practice Groups, and continues to work as a virtual intern for this dietitian by using social media to build the brand of America´s Nutrition Expert. Also in 2007, Katie made the most of a traditional summer job at a local camp by volunteering to serve on the Saucony Run for Good Advisory Committee and creating nutrition lessons for the district's summer running program. In the summer of 2008, Katie spent 14 weeks as a nutrition communications intern at Weber Shandwick, a public relations firm in Chicago, where she worked closely with a team of dietitians and PR professionals to promote the firm's nutrition and food-related consumer accounts. When she spent 12 weeks living in Spain this past summer, she organized a variety of culture and language immersion experiences at the Weber Shandwick, Madrid office.
