I think that you can find something in many areas of San Francisco, but as far as close neighborhoods go, I like the Haight and Cole Valley.

Based on affordability/safety, and quick access to UCSF, I would suggest the Sunset area. It can be quite foggy most of the time, but I didn't mind it usually.

Why did you choose to apply to this program?
It was a well-rounded clinical program in an exceptional hospital. It had a variety of rotations, It was 1 year long so you knew it was going to be a good experience. It was in a beautiful city. They also give you a stipend.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
I knew it was a strong program with a long-standing reputation for producing very good clinicians. I wanted a program with a strong clinical emphasis. Since my husband was in school and unable to make any income, I was also looking for a program with no internship fee and hopefully providing a stipend.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
I chose to apply at UCSF because their internship has a clinical focus, which is what I wanted, and their internship program has a good reputation. I was also drawn because most of the rotations are in the same location so travel was minimized. Finally, I liked that fact that UCSF interns are paid a monthly stipend.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
Because of the location, reputation, and that it was a paid internship.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
I wanted to be at a teaching hospital in a big city. I liked the clinical focus. I was impressed by my site visit. The internship had great benefits.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
This program had a strong clinical emphasis. Location was also an important factor, as I wanted to do my internship at a large teaching hospital with a good reputation. Also, this internship offered a stipend.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
I wanted to be in San Francisco. I also wanted a heavily clinical internship. I also liked the amount of autonomy the interns get throughout the program.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
Highest pass rate of all internships for the first time taking the RD exam for many years. Very comprehensive and complete, including opportunity for staff relief. Research hospital. Location. Stipend.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
Stipend, reptutation, and it was in a location I hadn't been to before. Strong clinical focus with minimal food service time was a big plus for me.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
UCSF is one of the best in the nation and has a heavy clinical emphasis in a medical teaching center setting that is hard to obtain anywhere else. I also wanted exposure to the diverse and wide spectrum of disease states and gain experience in the nutritional management of them.

What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Try and get experience in a hospital early on in your undergraduate program. Volunteer at a hospital, look for a job as a diet tech because from the first day you are up on the floors and its better if you already have a feel for the hospital atmosphere.
For the interview just be yourself, each internship has a personality and if you pretend to be someone that you are not just to get in, it might not be the best fit for you in the long run.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Grades are very important, especially in your nutrition courses. There is no interview, so the personal statement is also very important. Make sure to proof-read your application several times and have someone else double-check it, too. If you don't follow the application instructions exactly, you will not be considered.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Start working on your application WAY in advance, and take a proactive approach to gain volunteer, work, and leadsership experiences that will make you stand out. Also, have several people you trust proofread your work. DO NOT send an application with bad grammer or typos. Finally, read and follow the instructions meticulously to avoid getting "weeded out" by the internship selection committee.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Make sure your application is complete, neat, organized.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Do your research. Ask questions. Try to contact current interns. Visit if possible. Read the application instructions carefully. Send out your applications ahead of the deadlines.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Be as detailed and particular about your application and/or interview. Follow directions on the application! Dress for success. Wear a classy suit, even if you are just going to the open house. First impressions are extremely important and can make or break your acceptance into the program.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Show who you are as an individual. This program requires a lot of independence, flexibility, and drive, so show those attributes in your essay.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
You need something to make you stand out to the selection committee, they get close to 100 apps for 10 slots, so it is very competitive. Do volunteer, get a job/summer internship etc. in the field, work on food studies or participate in food studies, get involved in nutrition/health related clubs, keep your grades up, etc. Be creative and honest in your personal statement, from the heart.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
If you have something you want them to know about you, you have to say it in your personal statement because there is no interview. Clinical experience isn't necessary to get chosen. I think maybe 1 person out of the 9 in my class had previous clinical experience. A wide variety of experiences is more important.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Make sure you are through. Check, check then double check your application ensuring you have everything they ask for in the correct order. Also, be sincere in your responses to the questions.
