What was the workload like?
We had to coordinate a hospital wt loss program, teach nutrition to a police department, hold monthly health fairs, research legislation.
What was the workload like?
There were mainly 8 outside projects we worked on and each intern was held responsible for one of the projects. Some of these included 2 different weight loss challenges, national nutrition month, writing newspaper articles for the hospital newspaper, working with the food bank, and developing a cookbook for gastrointestinal disorders. We also helped facilitate an actual research study, chose a patient to present as a case study, and reviewed a research article to present.

Why did you choose to apply to this program?
It was very diverse in the rotations it offered. The program includes a wellness rotation as well as a culinary rotation. Clinical experiences were diverse as well.
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
I knew I wanted to get out of the state of Michigan for my internship. Aside from that, I wanted a program that offered interesting and unique experiences. The website for MUSC's internship was awesome and filled with personal experiences, detailed descriptions of the rotations, pictures, and even a powerpoint with voice over from the director. I got the best all around feel for what I'd actually be doing in this program. The clinical rotations are at a 600 bed teaching hospital and level one trauma center where you see very interesting cases. There were unique community rotations and projects including culinary school, weight loss challenges, a spot on live tv, monthly nutrition newspaper articles, and more!
Why did you choose to apply to this program?
I liked the variety of individual and group projects; the open communication and guidance- but not suffocation- of the director; the encouragement of learning; the youthful and well-knowledgeable preceptors.

What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Be honest, talk up your strong points (but don't be arrogant), and be confident in what you can contribute!
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Any experience during undergrad counts whether it is nutrition based or not. For example, I volunteered at the local food bank, did study abroad, and worked for 2 years during college as a waitress. I was able to relate these experiences to positive personal characteristics they instilled in me so that made every experience worthwhile.
The interview process is tricky. Just really make that internship feel like they are your top choice (whether they are or not). Relate any experience you have to why it would make you a good candidate. Really try and get across your passion for the field of nutrition.
The personal statements are crucial in my opinion. Do not just restate everything that you included in your application. Bring forth new attributes and experiences you have that make you unique and stand out from the rest. Also, proof read, proof read, proof read! Have several other people edit your paper and give feedback.
What is your best application advice to applicants of this program?
Research often-asked questions and be prepared for all of them; Know how to describe your past experiences in a brief but informative statement; Be EXTREMELY well acquainted with the program and do your research- it shows your interest and dedication.
